The Corporate Takeover of New Orleans (at Taxpayer Expense)

Well... I had a bit of a epiphany last night. I realized that a while back Congress basically outlawed bankruptcy. Later on, the Supreme Court upheld an "eminent domain" ruling saying that governments can take privately owned property at will "for the public good"... Sandra Day O'Connor basically sold us out then stepped down (I think somebody made her do that).
Somebody blew up the new concrete levee in the New Orleans 9th Ward using underwater charges AFTER the hurricane passed, and a nearby resident heard it while he was outside loading up his truck. That guy talked to an ABC News correspondent, who then questioned the mayor on it... the mayor said that the guy's claim had no credence (translation: "that guy can't possibly know how much money I stand to make from all this, so pay no attention to him!").

Homeland Security ran FEMA, FEMA did nothing but block relief efforts my numerous companies and organizations. Brown, who was under Chertoff, took the fall and stepped down in disgrace. Chertoff's memo said that the White House was in charge of operations... so all of them are disavowing all responsibility for their lack of action for 5 whole days, while the stricken residents drowned and starved on their own, and the lunatic fringe within that population got homicidal while going through withdrawal from whatever street drugs they had been using.

I think their plan was to wait to see who all the hurricane can kill off, isolate the stragglers without rations for as long as you can, then chase everyone else out, and take over the whole place. Right now there are at least 164 Blackwater Security (all mercenaries, some paid up to $1,000 a day in Iraq) patrolling the streets of New Orleans with assault guns, claiming to have been deputized, insisting that they were working for the Homeland Security Department and that they were sleeping in camps the Department had organized.

They obviously intend to forcibly take all that property, under eminent domain, then offer a pittance settlement to the homeowners being displaced. The displaced homeowners will have to take the small money they will offer or they’ll get nothing. If their jobs are gone, they will have to find employment either in their resettlement areas, or come back to work for small wages in the "corporate cleanup" of New Orleans. All those homeowners will have to file bankruptcy to get out of debt, and it will take a long time to get relief, if any. FEMA will offer low cost LOANS for rebuilding, but that’s just more debt. The banks are offering 90 day deferments on loan payments, but that’s just a stall for foreclosures. When you are not allowed to return to fix your home to live in, your job is gone and you have to start from scratch in a new area, you are not very well going to be able to make payments on a house you cannot live in as well as pay for your new living quarters. I figure the non-homeowners can start fresh just about anywhere if they can just locate jobs. The welfare indigents will settle in anyplace that will take them.

The cronies (Halliburton, KBR, Fluor, Bechtel, Shaw Group, etc.) will "clean up" the area on no-bid plus-cost contracts, bulldoze everything, then the big money developers will remake the whole city as they see fit. They'll turn it into their own rich-man’s Disneyland with condos and gated communities and high real estate valuations. New Orleans' mayor will be made a very rich man for playing along. Just watch them.

President Bush just issued an executive order that cancels the minimum wage for the duration of the cleanup period, and effectively lowering the wages of reconstruction workers because the reconstruction companies don’t have to pay the prevailing wages in the disaster region... just another angle on optimizing the plunder. The Republicans apparently think that $9 an hour for construction workers is too high a price to pay. The government contractors will probably save money by exploiting illegal immigrant labor. All normal rules of contracting and competition are being waived in this emergency. In the meantime, Republican senators in other states are trying to push through even more tax cuts for the very wealthy "to help provide economic stimulus during the recovery".

We have: motivation, intent, M.O., premeditated mass murder, willful massive property destruction, theft, collusion, conspiracy, and a whole range of other charges... all under the guise of institutionalized ineptitude. You don't have to be a psychic or a detective to figure this stuff out.

Get ready for another round of unprecedented plundering at taxpayer expense.
